A Music Business graduate from Miami-Dade College started his musical career early in life. His professional and personal background gives him the ability to experiment with sounds to create unique mixtures for artist and labels throughout diverse cultures and categories. From Modern Rock and Metal to Pop, Mexican Banda, Latin, Folk and Reggae, this talented Latino producer knows how to benchmark his talents to bring new ideas and sounds to life.
When Jamaican reggae legend, Buju Banton moved into Oscar Moncada's neighborhood back in 2010, little did Oscar know his collaboration on Buju’s latest album, "Before the Dawn" would show up on the Grammy ballot that year. "Before the Dawn" produced and recorded in part at Oscar Moncada's home studio in Tamarac, Florida, won the 2011 Grammy for Best Reggae Album.
Before taking on Buju Banton's latest album, Oscar had worked on various projects including Co-writer for Alejandro Fernandez “Se Me Va La Voz” which reached #1 on Billboards Top Latin Songs in December 2010.
Oscar also Worked as a Music Producer for Basswalk Records, creating projects for latin Artists including Remixes such as “La Camisa Negra” from renowned Colombian Singer Juanes, as well as his own Latin American release side project named Aeroplano.
Adding to his body of work, he was also an Audio Specialist at Telemundo Network, which included ample knowledge of technical aspects of broadcast audio, being part of the morning show audio team as well as being a mixer for promos and nationwide content for the network.
Shortly thereafter, Oscar went to his native Colombia for some time to collaborate with local musicians and artists and work on how to embrace the future of South Americas music business.
Back in Los Angelesby 2015, Oscartook on other challenges including career counseling for prospective music students in a well known music school, worked as a jingle writer, film composer, took side projects in T.V show mixing, arranger, composed original material for stage productions and in 2017, became Music Producer for season one of“La Reina De La Canción”. A primetime, highly rated music show on Univision.
Reggae came calling back in 2019 when Gargamel studios decided they needed a whole new approach to Buju Banton’s next album. Oscar went to Kingston and stayed there for that year to modernize, update and head the studio to get ready to work on Bujus next album. During that year, Oscar had the opportunity to also contribute to DJ Khaled’s “Father of Asaad” album as recording engineer, as well as track for a collaboration with Buju and John Legend.
After a better part of a year of recording in Jamaica, UPSIDEDOWN2020 was released to critical acclaim and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album of the year with Oscar as Engineer. Unfortunately it did not win.
Most notable in 2022 was Oscars participation in the NBCUniversal/Telemundo Audio team that televised the FIFA World Cup from Qatar. This event concluded with the Emmy win for Outstanding Studio Show in Spanish for that year.
For most of 2023, Oscar frequently collaborated with other producers, including Orbitamuzic most notably being part in a compilation release Orbita Music All Star Ensemble.
2024 Brings new aspirations. Its time to go back where it all started, to Rock. A new single is on the way May the 16th. Its called Anxiety and deals with all the anxt, self-doubt, pain, bad choices, social distress and confusion we all face in the world, especially the 30-40 year olds.
Every project usually is a standout because of the unconventional thinking and personal tastes he brings to the table. Always searching for that slight imbalance that makes his music so distinct to the audiences’ ears.
